Re: Happy Happy Birthday, Greg!!
Thanks for the wonderful birthday wishes! I would have responded sooner but I've been out of the country on a European adventure that has had me off the grid for a few weeks. So it was quite an epic birthday... Plus I was awarded an upgrade to Captain at Skywest... I will soon be flying the ERJ175 f...

Re: FSACARS VATSIM issue
Excellent Mike...thanks very much. Ilan's familiar with the manual edit option and that will be fine til there's time to get it fixed. Thanks again for the quick work.

FSACARS VATSIM issue
Technical guru's. I'm not familiar with this program but Ilan Maor uses it for all his flights. Recently he contacted my about an issue regarding his FSACARS submitted flights began not showing up as VATSIM flown flights. This started a couple of months back. I've never used FSACARS but my understan...

Re: A dangerous over reliance on automation
According to the investigative documentary the issue with the pitot tube would be cleared up withing 10min by the a/c itself (heaters or whatever...) I'm not familiar with the pitot systems/redundancies on the A330 but lets say it takes 8 min to thaw the frozen pitot tubes. An aircraft the size of ...

Re: A dangerous over reliance on automation
Anyway...continuing from my last post. Yesterday's hand flown CAT II was out of the ordinary and in that sort of scenario a riskier choice. It was a completely safe choice but one that was made understanding the additional risk after both the Captain and I agreed it was the best option. Everything i...

Re: A dangerous over reliance on automation
There is probably overuse/reliance on automation in aviation. It's not however, the downward spiral of safety in the industry as this article seems to claim. The reality is that each year there are more safely conducted flights (commercial, military or GA) than the year before....this is the direct ...

Re: There once was a round-the-world group flight...
I remember that. It was back in my first life in AAV. As I recall it was all DC-3 or something like that, and we started in California and worked our way East. I think I made it unit l Louisiana or so before I drifted away. I seem to remember Mr. Reince and Mr. Gemelli....who else? Yes, we used the...

Re: Sudden Loss of Power
I have some questions on run time for the deicing system Greg. Is that something you would turn on once tha APU is running or after engine start? Does it depend on the aircraft? Is there any point at which you wouldn't want it on like on takeoff or final or does it just stay on gate to gate as long...
