System performance sticky thread

Post by Michael Blakely »

We all see this question frequently, "what hardware do you have and how does it perform?", and we all ask this question when considering how to spend our hard earned dollars on new hardware.

I would like to populate this sticky thread with our system specifications (CPU, Mobo, Memory, Video card, Power Suppply), the software we run (XP, Vista, FS9, FSX, Squakbox, FSInn, Ultimate Traffic, Radar Contact, FSNav, custom scenery), FS9/FSX settings (where do you set your sliders?), and the resulting performance information (Frame rates at empty and busy airports, any other issues or lack of issues like "system freezes up for 2 seconds").

Murry,

I don't know if the "Alien" case means an Alienware computer so I'll ask away. Did you build this yourself or have Alienware build it? If you used Alienware, what was your experience like?

I have two Alienware computers and one Sony operating FSX plus one Dell laptop for my word processing and such. Alienware is a subsidiary of Dell computers. They specialize in Gaming computers, see my specs above.
I have bought the two of them on line with no hassles and I got what I spec'd out given what they offer. I am totally satisfied with the Aliens.

This is my new computer:

Intel core i7950 -3,06 MHZ
DDR3 2Gbx4 Non-ECC KVR1600D3N9/2G
Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX470
Gygabyte ODIN 720 W
Seagate 500 Gb 3,5" SATA2
Motherboard Gygabite x58 USB3

FSX - acceleration . This run In KJFK with extreme screen performance 10FPS aprox. Flying with MD82 Flight1 porfessional add-on. DX10 and My Traffic X ( 20 % traffic), I think too low FPS.
The air up there in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious. And why shouldn't it be?--it is the same the angels breathe.

My new system here in the land of OZ;
Features the following:

MS Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit.
Case, Phantom NZXT. (This is one big case)
Intel CORE i7 950/3GHZ/4.8GT (8MB Cache).
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 LGA1366; 6DDR3;SATA3;USB3;ATX
ST3100000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB SATA2 3.0 G/S.
Ram: DT;Kingston 12GB 1333MHZ.
SSD2: OCZ SSD 2.5' SATA 128 GB.
Sound: Creative X-fi XtremeAudio.
Radeon HD6850 775MHz 1 GB GDDR5 Video card.
Liquid cooling.

I'm now hooked on FSX as frame rates are excellent with all sliders right up.
I have the frame rate set at 21 FPS and it never drops below 20.
I have run it at max with frame rates in the 40's.
