Prepar3d V2

Post by Barry Theodore »

I thought it was time to start a thread in the technical area so a discussion could start on this newly released product.
I installed the same version as Wayne. Straight out of the box excellent graphics and 20 fps, but then it was set to 20 fps anyway. I moved most of the sliders to max and still had 20 fps.
The controller (Saitek AV8R-01) took a little setting up. A hint here is write down the assignments as you set them up and remove any duplicate assignments and you shouldn't have any problems.
The only problem I had with the install is that I didn't have the latest "Microsoft .net framework" , needs 4.5.
I looked in the "Task Manager", "Performance" and all 8 cores were being used when the program was running, no more messing around with the "affinity mask" setting.
The latest FSUIPC was installed, it connects to FSCommander ok, haven't tried FSHOST yet.
The only problem I see so far (and I have only had it running for about 10 minutes) is that re-installing SB4 it doesn't see Prepar3d. That would appear to mean that while you may be able to connect to Vatsim with Prepar3d using SB4 you will not be able to see other aircraft. Not sure about FSInn at this stage.
I will try to post more information as testing this "game" continues.

Here is a couple of items I have learned after using P3Dv2.

I load and install items like, SB4, other payware scenery, aircraft, my interface cockpit program, etc., by tricking the program to thing P3D directory is the FSX. I put a copy of the FSX.exe in the P3D main directory and then use a FSX registry fix tool to aim the computer that direction. Don't forget to reaim back to FSX when done.
I have gotten SB4 to see aircraft in P3D by reinstalling using the above technique, Vatsim is now operational with P3D

The black out screen is a bug with P3d. I have it also but it clears up after a few moments. It happens when things load. It is the P3d version of the white screen of death for FSX, I believe.

I have good fps, not that I am counting. I really like the shadowing for the world and aircrafts, the insides of the cockpit especially There are a lot shadow and texture settings to play with, Sergio you have to find one which will work for you best.

I was able to load Tongass Fjords up using the above techniques also, look great. Rex will load up with a $5.00 license from them to convert the textures to P3D. FSCommander is dual installers in the latest 9.3 version. use the menu window options tag to change in the program then restart..

FTX global is the only thing from ORBX so far, and it has a bug in it they are aware of and patching it.

I need to upgrade one of my computers to the DX11 video to operate it from that one. It will only simulate on windws 7, 8.1 and uses DX11. All the core graphs are going crazy using the program. Finally being used.

Some of the Carenado aircraft are now dual installers. Except my favorite B58, it loads but bounces on the tarmac. The Milviz 737 works with a dual installer also. My A2A airplanes will load using the technique above.

Fraps a video capture works, but I must startup the FRAPS first. FSHOST has a new server and client download for P3D, which works also. FSUIPC has a new V2 version out.
All the FSdreamteam, flightbeam airports have a new dual installer out.

All of these are upgrades at no cost extra cost from the manufacturers, which is good as I don't want to rebuy all I have.

There will be others to work or not. I don't see this as a replacement for my FSX as yet, that is still to come. I am able to use almost all I bought so far.

Since I can't get FSX to install again. Is it feasible to do manual installation of addons into P3D similar to FSX? i.e. airplane folders into the SimObjects/Airplanes folder, gauges, effects, etc.? What about putting a dummy fsx.exe file in the P3D root folder? Would that fool some of the installers into working? Anyone try FSInn over a networked machine yet? Many, many questions... :D

At first use, it was fine. Many products are becoming now P3Dv2 compatible which do not need it. And many of the FS products I used for FSX will install in P3d without any outside helpand without the tool. So I probably used it a half dozen times, and now do not use it. It does not make things work with P3Dv2 it just installs them. It is simple to use.

Actually I have stopped flying in P3Dv2 as there are some problems with it which need fixing and all the big payware products I have are not compatable with it.

Shared enough? It looks fake, and only for old guy use.
