Wilco A380v2 and Win 10

Post by Pete Murray »

Passing along a PIREP of sorts....
Trying to expand my stable and decided on the Wilco A380 v2 (for some of those BAW codeshare flights). Went through the whole installation (2x) as administrator. Decided to update the AIRAC database, and that's where problems arose. Crash to desktop after having the A380 open for a few minutes. Buffer overflow errors.... I re-installed original AIRAC database. Same old crash with buffer overflow errors. Only happened when Wilco A380 was open. Deleted the entire Wilco A380, no more buffer overflow errors!!
Sent a help ticket to our fine European friends, (those that aren't immersed in World Cup). So they conceded there are issues with Windows 10 and their A380 payware package. No plans to send a patch for FSX/P3D and Win 10, we won't support this any longer. Sorry....my advice if you have Win 10 and are having problems with Wilco A380v2, just scrap it.
So if you have Win 7 or earlier you may still be lucky and be able to use this payware. Meanwhile, there's nothing (payware) for an A380. Lately I have converted over to Aerosoft Airbus X series, really really nice!!! But, no 380 on their menu.

If anyone knows of a decent A380 package???? If not, guess it'll have to be trip 7's, Dreamliner, or QOTS 4 burner to make some codeshare connections overseas.

Humbled and dismayed.

Pete,

I agree with your preference of Aerosoft over Wilco. I found several bugs in the Wilco A320/A321 series that annoyed me. I have yet to find a bug in the Aerosoft A320.

I agree with Mike. I've had the Aerosoft A320/321 a/c for awhile now and have not had any issues (except the engines seem a little under powered in "Flex" takeoff mode).

Ted,
Regarding your underpowered flex TO setting, I have seen this too; but I usually try to plug in a much higher flex TO temp in the MCDU/FMS. This will give you a bit higher thrust rating, but keeps you aloft! Also, I keep the slats out for a few thousand feet; Once you suck in all the flaps/slats, it wants to stall kinda quickly.
Daddy still wants a decent Super 380!!!!

Thanks Pete. As for the stalling part, I've experienced it as well. Found it works much better if after t/o, during the initial climb, you watch the upper left corner of the PDF. When it displays the LVR CLB message (indicating you have reached the Thrust Reduction altitude) you should move the thrust levers back to Climb (CL) thrust. The Flight Management System seems to expect that configuration and works a lot better (no more high angles of attack and subsequent stalls).
