First GFI of 2011 -

Post by Wayne Pierce »

Well space cadets, the new year'w GFI started with 5 of our most bravest, trusted pilots - one crashed out on departure and one never left the ground, sort of.

The flight had good ATC all the way with shortcuts offered by ATC in the New Yourk zone. One of our pilots learned that the icing settings turned on wouldn't let him fly over 179kias.

As the flight progressed weather started to deteriorate over the landing field. Snow, very low cloud cover medium winds which made for an instrument approach mandantory, unless, also like one of our pilots whom turned off the weather to see where he was going!

I do not have any pictures of the takeoff lineup as I was already on the way when the photographer decided to get out the camera.

Here are some FROZIN' shots after landing;
You can see the snow that built up on the windscreen after shutdown at the parking ramp. Then the ice and snow on the aircraft surfaces.
I had a good time and the PMDG JS41 performed as expected.

Till next time.

I love sim flights in severe weather, but they force me to remember stuff I sometimes forget (like pitot heat).
