Older charts vs new charts for checkrides

Post by Wayne Pierce »

Again the question has come up for the training office; the Charts with the check rides are out of date.

Here is the reason; The Recorder program and the associated program we use to read it was made with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000. The way points and NAV aids are set in "stone" for that time period. If we use the most up to date charts almost all the way points and NAV aids will not be there. We did update the charts awhile ago and 90% of the NAV aids were still there. Some charts we were not able to update as they no longer are applicable to today's navigation or even exist.

One is to use the charts supplied as you are flying off line, with no traffic and NO FMC or COMPUTER controlled functions for navigation. Use the old fashioned VOR radio NAV system. It still works. The NAV aids in the flight sim programs are still active for the charts we use. They all use the same data base from the beginnings of Flight Sim.

If anyone has a problem with using NAV radio flights, this link from our web site is an excellent learning tool.
