Why the check flights do not match the real world.

Post by Wayne Pierce »

To all Pilots that want to try our check flights;

Several pilots have questioned that the Check Flights do not match the real world.

This is a small problem we have with the Check Flights. They were designed for MSFS2000 and hence it is now 23 years after that the charts have changed, several times. We cannot change the built in Nav aids, waypoints, Rwys, etc. So with that said, this is why we have pilots fly manually using NAV radios and your pilotmanship. One does what one can and we know that things change but are out of our hands.
The Check Flights were made many years ago by the real world pilots whom were or are members of the AAV.

Examples are that several of the latest STARS do not match up with what we use for the criteria of the check flights and their listed routings, RWY headings have changed due to the Earth's magnetic shift, some intersections and waypoints are no longer listed. Now what this means is that you, the pilots flying these routes, have to actually use the NAV radios and fly manual headings to the listed waypoints or VOR's. This has always been the basics of the Check Flights.

This will not affect your results of the Check Flights, we know what is going on and adjust our grading accordingly.

Thanks,
