KCLT-KLGA GFI 10/1/10

Good turnout for this GFI - Ted Martin (AAV537), me (AAV580), Michael Mueller (AAV624), Barry "one down under Saturday a year off" Theodore (AAV699), Sergio Sanchez (AAV742), and Wayne Pierce (AAV783). There was a brief sighting of Jerry Swalling (AAV953) but I believe he developed some equipment malfunction and was grounded by the maintenance chief.

Overheard on the Charlotte Ground control freq:
AA580 - "Good evening Charlotte Ground. American five eight zero with you at Charlotte. Request IFR clearance delivery to LaGuardia."
Ground - "Good evening. Would you mind changing your call sign to AAL? AA is not American Airlines."
AA580 - "Yes, I would mind."
pause
Ground - "American five eight zero, you need to change because American Airlines is AAL, not AA."
AA580 - "If you want me to change, you need to get a supervisor online."
after longer pause
Ground - "American five eight zero, the delay in delivering your clearance is because I'm calling a supervisor."
another long pause
Ground - "American five eight zero, I have your clearance. Advise when ready to copy."

This sounded like a young kid. Unfortunately i didn't get his name. Would be nice to find out where these people are getting this garbage. He also tried the same thing when Wayne first contacted him, but Wayne was having headset probs and didn't hear.

Finally, we're moving. Barry was first off and here's Wayne starting his takeoff roll.
