My office is 600 yards from the threshold of KCRQ (Palomar, Carlsbad airport). Sitting at my desk, I can hear the aircraft on approach, and see them for about 2 seconds as they pass between two buildings. When I see them, they're about 100-200 feet up and only 1,200 feet from the threshold.
Obviously, most aircraft land, but almost every day I see 1-3 mititary aircraft. Hueys, sea knights, seahawks, blackhawks, and ospreys from the Marines, Army, and Coast Guard. These guys fly straight down the runway at 100-200 feet, then fly away. They never touch down.
I'm guessing ILS approach practice. What do you all think?

Re: ILS Practice?
You need to take your video camera one day and catch some of the action.

Re: ILS Practice?
Pilot is calling ATC requesting "low approach" which basically allows a VFR pilot to make a simulated instrument approach followd by an intentional go-around. This allows a pilot to practice in VFR conditions without having to go through the pains of getting an IFR clearance just to execute some IAPs.
