Hell Must Have Frozen Over

Post by Harold Henderson »

CoolSky (http://www.coolsky.no/news/other-news/5 ... ic-for-p3d) announces they are porting their MD-80's and DC-9 to P3Dv4.

Don't need an MD-80 since the MadDog is already out and awesome, but I do love that CoolSky DC-9.

WOW! it must be a really cool day at Coolsky considering they were never going to go P3d route for flight sim.
Good, now I am glad I did not yet buy the maddoggey version yet. It still is a wait until it happens game.

Now, if LevelD will follow suit, with a new release and not a port over.

Coolsky Blog;
To quickly recap my position on P3D from my earlier blog posts; I stated that I would not currently develop for P3D because of its 4% market share which I think is too small to be commercially viable for me

WOW this is great. I like my CoolSky MD80 and was going to miss it when I converted to P3D.

Unless you want the old steam gauge CoolSky MD-80, I wouldn't wait for it. The MadDog is much better.

Take a look at what's coming out in SP1 and future plans for the MadDog - https://www.flythemaddog.com/forum/inde ... d-updates/

CoolSky has released the P3Dv4 ONLY version of their 3 planes - Super 80, Super 80 Professional, and DC-9 - as a three-plane megapak. Available from Flight1 for $54.95. http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=s80dc9mp

If you bought the previous versions, there are coupons to download and use during the purchase process that reduce the price to $29.95.

Since I already have and love the MadDogX MD-80 (equivalent to SoolSky Super 80 Professional), the DC-9 was really all I wanted, but now I get all three anyway.

UPDATE. I took the bait and bought the megapak BUT am having some issues.

-- The planes load but then I can do nothing but look around. The yoke/rudder move but nothing else works.
-- The Flight Center does not popup at load nor is the View Menu accessible.

ALSO - these planes are a simple minimal PORT over to P3Dv4 with the same dated graphics as previous versions. Does not even come close to MadDogX standard.

Will post later if I mange to get this working.

UPDATE.

Apparently some people are having the same problem as I am and some not.

The developer, Espen, is looking into it.

UPDATE. Espen, the dev, has put out a new DLL file that appears to have resolved the issue with the DC-9. The 80's are still not working for some but I'm sure Espen will have the fix out for them shortly as the issue appears similar to the the issue with the DC-9 that has been resolved.

Another bit of good news gleaned from the forums is the FSX liveries should work on the P3Dv4 models.

There is now an add-on to the excellent Leonardo Maddog MD82 that adds the MD83 and MD88 models. It's available at SimMarket.com for about $25. You must have the main sim - MD82 - installed for the add-on to work. It is the best MD-80 sim I have ever flown -- not to discount all the fun we had learning to fly the original CoolSky MD-80 back when it came out.

Yes, now seeing all the announcements about the Maddog (e.g. support for PBR texturing) I will definitely go the Maddog route instead of updating my CoolSky MD-80. I've really enjoyed the CoolSky a/c but don't see the need to have two manufacture's versions of the same plane.
