Mullen Fails First Selection to Old Geezer's Club

As you know there is an "Old Geezer's Club" election process as each AAV member enters into their 45th year.
As the club's recording secretary (non-member), It is with profound sadness that I must notify Mr. John Mullen that he failed for selection to this lofty club on his first attempt. By a vote of 3 to 5, the majority of the selection committee thought he had simply not shown sufficient signs of awareness of or depression in the face of onrushing senility appropriate for his advanced years.
John, I certainly hope this sad news is not totally demoralizing on your birthday. Try your best to carry on! I hear lots of birthday cake with a DFW goat's milk chaser is a wonderful elixer for woes such as this.
Happy 44th birthday, John!
By the way, selection for this club is NOT a lifetime endowment. In fact, Mr Rick Stevens was de-selected this past birthday as he was starting to get too spunky and showing too much pluck for his advanced years. He'll probably be back in next year when his meds stabilize.
