I have been using squawk box 4 to fly online on vatsim, i managed to fly at least 11 flights with no problems till yesterday when i get a message requesting me to debug or ignore or retry (assertion failure), this has happened 3 times on a long flight when am about to reach my destination, this is really ruining my online experience anyone HELP please.

Yea... This is a known issue with SB4 unfortunately. If you just hit the 'Ignore' button the message will simply go away. Any other button and it will actually shut down SB and/or FS... So, make sure you only hit the 'ignore' button. The real downside to this bug is that you HAVE to be at your computer to catch it because it will pause the sim until you hit the button. This really stinks for long flights! :(

I haven't tried this yet, but from what I understand, if you run SB outside of FS (From the programs menu in your start bar), this error does not happen. Only if you run it within FS do you get this error. You can also run SB on a seperate PC or laptop via simconnect (There are instructions on the SB forum on how to do this), and supposedly, then, you will not get the error either.

I have been trying to get that to happen. Run on a separate PC. I cannot figure out the simconnect issue and get it working correctly. If you know of the EXACT way to do it talk me thru it. I follow the "instructions" on the forum and still no joy.
I just keep pushing the ignore button. If you push any other than that it crashes to desktop fast !!

LOL... I've had problems as well trying the simconnect thing, but thought I'd add that here as informational. Maybe someone else might have better luck. After entering into this discussion though, I'm itchin to try again. In the past I've tried to follow the instructions to the "T", but I think I'll try some stuff outside of the box (No pun intended).

I believe we both run W7 and FSX + Accel, don't we? (I will be trying to run SB4 externally on an XP Pro laptop) If I can get it working I will certainly document and walk you through it. I'm betting we are having the same issue preventing us from getting it to work.

Thanks for all your contributions yesterday i finally flew from Portland to Dallas- FortWorth intl smoothly and uninterrupted, I installed squawkbox on my server and on my PC, using simconnect, this setup also reduces demand on CPU from my observation, you get slightly higher frame rates, and generally a smoother simulation experience. Anyone having similar problem please quit hitting the ignore button and try this solution its working fine for now for me.
Jeff,

Please post the version of Windows you are using on both machines (Your FS one and the simconnected one for SB), also your FS version... A lot of us have had issues trying this method while following the instructions to the "T", not getting it to work.

If you found something that you had to do that varied from the original instructions throw that in here as well... :)

I haven't had a chance to try again with this yet but I will...

Thanks!
Robert

Thanks for the info Jeff...

Did you edit any of the .ini or .cfg files in SB4 to point to the hosting server (This is documented in the SB4 forum)? Also, did you have any firewall issues with your W7 box blocking simconnect or SB4?

Thanks! Glad you got it working! I will try to play with it this weekend.
