NOTE ADDED 1/23/14 -UPDATED CASE BELOW. COMPONENTS DID NOT FIT IN CASE USED IN CONFIG AT TOM'S HARDWARE. IT APPEARS THE WINNERS OF THE "Your Top Picks: Tom's Hardware Forums' Q4 2013 BestConfigs" WERE NOT REQUIRED TO ACTUALLY B-U-I-L-D THEIR SYSTEMS!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pulled the trigger on the new system yesterday. Pretty much follows this configuration from Tom's Hardware - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/bes ... 92-10.html

Intel Core i7-3930K Hexa-Core Processor 3.2 Ghz 12 MB Cache LGA 2011 - BX80619I73930K

ASUS P9X79 LE LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

EVGA GeForce GTX 760 SC 4GB DisplayPort HDMI DVI-I/DVI-D Graphics Card with ACX Cooler 04G-P4-2768-KR

2 x Patriot 8GB(2x4GB) Vier III DDR3 1600MHz (PC3 12800) CL9 Desktop Memory With Black Mamba Heatsink - PV38G160C9K

Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive MZ-7TE500BW

Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Internal Desktop Hard Drive - WD2002FAEX

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120mm PWM Fan (RR-212E-20PK-R2)

Asus 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal OEM Optical Drive DRW-24B1ST (Black)

Cooler Master SickleFlow 120 - Sleeve Bearing 120mm Red LED Silent Fan for Computer Cases, CPU Coolers, and Radiators

Cooler Master HAF 922 - High Air Flow Mid Tower Computer Case

1000 watt power supply - PSU EVGA | 120-G2-1000-XR R

Pretty sure this will max out everything in FSX with decent frames and be pretty good in P3d/xPlane/whatever ... and last 4-5 years.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1/23/14 - WOW!!! Let the system auto-overclock to about 4.3GHZ. Need to do some manual fine tuning. Could probably get it to 4.7/8 but the 3930k probably needs liquid cooling for that. I've got one core that consistently runs hotter than the others by 6-8 degrees C. On a 1 1/2 hr flight that core maxed out at 75C. I understand that 90C is getting to the danger zone and I want to stay well below that, so 80C is my limit. 4930K could probably do it on air.

Running FSX in DX-10 with almost all video sliders max'd out and frame rate unlimited. Smooth, smooth, smooth. Have seen the fps dip below 30 in heavy scenery areas with payware a/c but never get to the point you would notice. Most of the time I'm well above 50 fps.

You are going to be very happy with that system.

That's an awesome build out. You will really like the SSD, especially since you went with a large one.
