Are you downloading from our aavirtual website or from somewhere else?

What browser are you using?

Is this one specific download file, or any download file?

After the download is done, and it shows in the bottom status bar of your browser, if you click on the dots or arrow next to it and select "show in folder", your browser should open the directory where the file was saved. Do you see the file there? What is the file size, zero, or megabytes?

Do you have the same problem with Internet Explorer or Firefox?

Could this possible be due to your anti-virus program? With upgrade to Windows 8.1 it may have also activated an anti-virus program that is interfering with your downloads.

Another possibility is you are downloading using a user on your computer that does not have "administrator" privileges (just guessing).

Not sure if it applies for your laptop, but the windows 8.1 can be updated to windows 10 for free.

You may have more overall luck with current OS, versus the win 8.1 being semi-retired and not so much attended to by manufacturer.

Again, not sure if applicable to your particular hardware, just a thought.

It may be a problem from the installer, I don't know if it will help you because I fly the Xplane. I recommend you to read it before installing it, it's the only thing I found for that specific case. Of course the installation is under your responsibility.
