Well it's official now, Microsoft Flight Simulator (i.e. 2020) will be released August 18th. It will be available in three versions with the difference between versions being number of a/c and airports. So I'm curious, how many of our AAV pilots are planning on purchasing Microsoft Flight Simulator this year. I myself will be waiting a year or so to give them time to shake out the bugs and to have time for me to fully understand what this new simulator really provides, outside the glitzy campaigns they have been displaying.

So let the debate begin.... :)

Yes that is the great news!

I am still searching for some authoritative answers on how the new fs will behave with vatsim for this is one of major things for me...
I assume all will be fine, vatsim being pretty much fs independent.

I for one will not be buying Flight Sim 2020 anytime in the near future. My going on 6 or 7 year old rig doesn't even meet the minimum requirements and would struggle to run the sim in any kind of detail which wouldn't really give me any added benefit over continuing on using FSX. I will have to get an updated computer before I would buy the new sim and I'm not in the financial situation to do that right now.

I may not be able to use it for AAV flights but it is too much eye candy and possible relation to real world aviation that I couldn't stand by and not jump in. I have only ordered the standard version as I like to keep things simple. You won't have all of the addons we have come to enjoy but you might find that you don't need them for a good experience. Having said that, I am sending a bill to Microsoft for my services. Just kidding

Wayne that is outstanding....we have an insider within the VA that we can provide quality data and info. I know you are under NDA but at this point from your experience with the Alpha versions, are the graphics as good as shown in the video trailers Microsoft has been showing?

The other question I have is about the airports. The difference between offered versions is the number of airports. I'm assuming that the named airports are for high quality payware level airports and that the sim does include 100's of other airports as do other simulators? In other words, the Standard Edition with 30 airports actually has hundreds of airports and only 30 payware-quality airports.

Arturo, this just came out today. Confirms that FS 2020 will be VatSim compatible. How well it works is yet to be seen...

The announcement:
"In an exciting announcement made by VATSIM today, it is confirmed that VATSIM will be compatible with the new Microsoft Flight Simulator on day one once the new simulator releases on Tuesday, August 18th 2020.

I've been without a simulator for a while. I've really been itching to get back into it now that life may be settling down after a busy few years. I will be getting it so I can fly with y'all again. Miss it so much.

Wow, as we get closer to the release date the videos are starting to fly (no pun intended) hot and heavy. I'm am totally impressed and blown away with what I've seen so far. This sim is going to be great, not withstanding the initial bugs.

Here is a great video showing the capabilities of the upcoming sim:

I'm planning to get it a few weeks after it comes out unless there are serious issues reported in the product.

This is online only sim, we need to have a good connection on top of that,This game will consume a lot of data minor disconectivity issues might affect our flights if at the end of 11 hour flight there is a disconnection for a few seconds and we can't resume our flight then that's an issue, plus not all freeware and payware will be available at launch, so maybe it's best to keep the old sim and it's addons if you spent a lot of money on them and not delete them immediately.

Hi,

I'll think I'll stick with XP11 for a while yet, I'll probably buy the game eventually but as Theodore wrote, let them iron out the bugs first :)

Harold, my favorite guinea pig....huh...expert first time reviewer :) Glad to hear you are diving in. Please provide us lowly non-FS2020 pilot your blow-by-blow description/evaluation of the product. Looking forward to your "weekly" updates once the product is released.

P.S. - That icing video almost made me want to purchase it right then. Only the sound, cold logic of a Vulcan (i.e. Star Trek) kept me from going over the edge. Not sure how long that will last.

I see Ted knows to bet against me waiting a few weeks to buy it  I've already got my ticket - just waiting for the movie to start on the 18th.
