Welcome aboard Stephen. You jumped right into the forums before your Hub Manager had a chance to introduce you, nothing wrong with that. Welcome to the states. I would like to become a pilot myself, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. As far as your question about the MD-80 and B737 yes you may substitute for any aircraft that you are qualified for. Therefore since your a first officer and if you wanted to fly a SAAB/ATR, CRJ/ERJ, or MD-80/737 all those aircraft would be acceptable since you are "qualified" for all of them. Hope this clears it up for you.
