FSX "8 minute Pause" Problem and Potential Solution
Had these every now and then when I was running FSX. Ran across the identification of the primary culprit on this thread http://hifisupport.kayako.com/Knowledge ... s-with-fsx
"With much research and testing, HiFi has determined that this freeze is related to the threading, affinity and the collision and deadlocking of terrain load fiber processes within FSX. It is almost unanimously related to use of Hyper-Threading, and can affect any FSX installation, including default/stock installations without any add-ons."

Re: FSX "8 minute Pause" Problem and Potential Solution
Wow! First time I've seen such a definitive statement of the cause. Wish the solution were a bit clearer though.
I used to get this every time I used the PMDG MD-11. I fixed it 90% of the time by setting frame rates to unlimited instead of locking them. Interesting that the HiFi solution suggests the opposite.

Re: FSX "8 minute Pause" Problem and Potential Solution
I had two crashes today. I'm wondering what to do with this information now. Wasn't it SP1 or SP2 that enabled multi-threading. Now this thread says it should be limited. That's what I'm reading right?

Re: FSX "8 minute Pause" Problem and Potential Solution
Rey, you can find discussions on turning off/on hyper threading by Googling it. I think the article is primarily telling you to use an appropriate affinity mask for your specific processor and software mix. This will also vary by sim - FSX/P3D.
You said you had "crashes". This article is only talking about the long lockup situation where the sim freezes for a period of time (8 mins or so) and then resumes, not a crash to desktop or BSOD situation.

Re: FSX "8 minute Pause" Problem and Potential Solution
Crashes with FSX or P3D, and if you use the F1 ATR will be the normal routine. Whenever we (the old regular GFI/Sat flight group) used the A/C it would crash FSX as a matter of course, especially if you used the FMC at all during flight.
Other Crashes to Desktop, CTD, were caused by many variables in your computer. Your available RAM for the Operating system to use other than the FSX program. If it used it up, then none was available for the simulator.
Most anti virus programs hate FSX. Constant computer windows updating cause crashes during use. Make sure ALL your graphics and FSX used addons are up to date. Sometimes even the latest graphic card updates are not good and needs to roll back to another version. Using your computer for other operations i.e. Internet browsing, Itunes, mail checking, etc. will cause the FSX crashes repeatedly. Many different FSX addons and payware scenery or aircraft really up the ante.
There are so many variables to list and your computer and the way you use it may add to any problems.
Start with the bare necessary computer specs and add on from there to find on which will work efficiently and fly from there. This has been discussed several times on the forum by several of us here.
Have fun.

Re: FSX "8 minute Pause" Problem and Potential Solution
Thanks guys. So yes..maybe it didn't crash. It was not Responding. I dind't let it hand out long enought to see if it resumes. I'll try that next time. I've tried about 6 flights between today and yesterday. I think FSinn is a cultprit. So I did two flights without, and I got further a long than with. Still ended up freezing. I noticed this last one happened when ASCA was updating with the AS16 weather. The other one was randomly. In either case, I got further along in the flight without FSinn. I did install the HD textures. So I may go lower the settings on those textures..or uninstall those textures altogether. One of the issues was an out of memory error. Man I hadn't gotten one of those since my last computer system.
This system isn't brand new, but newer. I wanna say i built it about 4 years ago. System is is an i5 3.4 Ivy Bridge, 16 gb RAM, Nvidia GTX 660 and on Windows 7 64 Bit. So I'm going to keep tracking down the source. Nothing definitive yet.

Rey,
FSINN is outdated. Vpilot is in now;

Do you use FSINN without being on VATSIM on line?

Re: FSX "8 minute Pause" Problem and Potential Solution
As Wayne has said, the Flight1 ATR was great in FS9 but it was a crash-dog in FSX for all of us. So, you might want to consider flying a different plane to regain your sanity and preserve your hair.

You can look at the Windows crash log. It's very cryptic but will sometimes give you an idea of which module is crashing or causing the crash.

Re: FSX "8 minute Pause" Problem and Potential Solution
The last two flights I didn't even load FsInn, but I noticed that the FSDT thingy was showing on the system tray below. So I'm going to uninstall now and and I'll give vpilot a try. What do you all think though, since I've been off for so long, should I reinstall FSX and start clean and go from there? I feel it's such a daunting task. I need to see if I can even find my disc.

Re: FSX "8 minute Pause" Problem and Potential Solution
Are the crashes you are getting now just general crashes or are they related to the F1 ATR? As mentioned in the above threads, crashes with the F1 ATR are common and there's not a lot you can do. If these are general crashes I have some suggestions.
Before reinstalling FSX I suggest a couple of things. First I would lower the graphics sliders to see if this helps. If that doesn't help I'd try deleting the FSX.CFG file (after backing it up) and allowing FSX to generate a new CFG file. Then fly using one of the FSX default a/c. If this works I would then try flying one our your payware a/c. Next I would slowly increase the graphics sliders to see if they are causing your problem. The idea is to start out in a minimum configuration and add features one at a time. It's time consuming but will eventually give you an idea of where you problem may be.
Good luck.

FYI..uninstalled FSInn. Flew KPSP to KORD in the Coolsky Super 80 with no issues. Didn't run AS16. So a little progress.

Re: FSX "8 minute Pause" Problem and Potential Solution
So....I think I'm good. Just did a flight with FSX, PMDG 737NGX (yes I splurged), and AS16 with no crashes...and it was glorious. I did a flight yesterday with PMDG and vroute with no issue too. Just need to do them all together now. I added the uiautomationcore.dll into my fsx directory tonight before loading up AS16. Pretty sure that was causing my pauses and crashes. So far so good with that dll module in the FSX directory.
