Well, we will then have new aircraft to add to the "Retro only club". To be able to fly the MD 80, 757 you will need the retro endorsement after making captain.
Something tells me they're just trying to put pressure on Boeing to come up with a better option for the airline. The whole point of retiring the A300's was to have an all-Boeing fleet in order to reduce maintenance costs. Considering that the last A300 flight was in 2009, I don't see how they have had a chance to "reap in the savings" yet.
