The aircraft have had that livery for so long that it is now instant brand recognition. I think they would be doing a disservice to themselves if they stray too far away from it. I would keep the current logo and polished metal and modify the stripes slightly if they really want to update the look somehow. The 787's could be painted gray just like the A300's were or the could look into some silver flake paint maybe. THAT would be something fresh and different.
