Endings and beginnings

Post by Rafael Fonseca »

Well, it finally happened: the old Windows XP machine that I bought in 2004 to run FS9 ist kaput.I grew quite comfortable with FS9 over the years. I've had FSX since it came out, but that old machine didn't run it well. So, I bought a new machine: a Dell Inspiron 5680 gaming machine. It's not Alienware(those were $6k loaded) but at least its modern with a decent vid card and runs FSX decent enough. But, I want to replace some of the gadgets with FS9. BTW, has anyone successfully run FS9 on a Windows 10 machine? If so, let me know how.

Does FSFlightmax and FSNavigator have variations that work on FSX? If not, do you know of something similar?

Rafael, What an old user you are. FS9 ??
Check this post on a forum for such an answer about FS9 and WIN10. It basically says you need to download a new FS9.exe, which I did also when I used it waaaaayyyyy back then.
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 9b8782dc05

read the bottom of the post about how to fix it.

I had two Alienware computers and both are now junked.

Good luck.

Thanks, Wayne, I'll check it out. I think the only two people on the planet who still run FS9 are me and Norberto Rivera! :o :D

Now that I have a more modern machine I plan on exploring different sims, especially after reading Michael Blakely'S thread about legacy sims

I use the payware FSC (Flight Sim Commander) in place of FSNavavigator these days.

There is a nifty little freeware utility out now called little nav map. Very similar to FSNav but with some added functionality. It works for FSX and P3D. I finally retired my FS9. :D

It gives pain to leave a simulator as good as the FS9 that has been a horse of a thousand fights, a Jeep of double traction, where almost all we learned to fly virtually and to improve it as far as its benefits. But; as the title of the subject says: "Endings and beginnings" and we regret practically the end of the FS2004 sim to make way for more versatile ones.
I have been using the FSX for years and there is a program that I used in the FS9 and they already mentioned it, it is the FSNav, a very useful tool that I really needed at the beginning of using the SIM X.
Here I leave another alternative; the link of the FSTramp, which is from the same FSNav developer, is useful for them, works on FSX and P3D.

Hugs to all of you with nostalgia because the FS9 practically goes away to us although it costs us to resign ourselves.

Hello again,

Thanks, Wayne, Mike, Norbert and Hubert! This is what this VA is about: the camaraderie.

To update: I did get FS9 to run on the new machine. Basically, it takes an understanding of the differences between Windows XP and subsequent versions of the operating system, mostly with the file management system and how it behaves. I have to give proper credit to(or a shout out) to Volker Heine, creator of the FS Commander software, for this education.

A long time ago, I bought an external hard drive and burned a copy of my C: drive onto it from the old Windows XP machine. Thus I had a working copy of FS9 and all of the aircraft and peripherals that I had ever bought for FS9 saved. Before that external hard drive, I had a DVD burner and burned a copy of all the executable files and registration keys that I purchased. So, I'm rebuilding FS9 a piece at a time, tweaking it to the new operating system. But, now I have a machine that can run FSX with no difficulty so I'm starting over and falling in love with flight simming again.
Regards,

Rafael Fonseca
